Kitchen Remodel

12 weeks

This American Contemporary kitchen was previously a small dated galley kitchen with walls painted maroon, featuring Oak cabinets and old appliances. To begin the planning for this remodel, we started with 3D kitchen designs to create a mockup of the new spacious layout and to see how the new materials would look when put together.

Our client had the idea of turning their small galley kitchen into a luxurious open layout kitchen designed to entertain guests. Starting with the layout, our client wanted to tear down a partition wall that separated the kitchen and dining room to create more space. Additionally, we opened up a load bearing wall to allow for the accordion doors you see in the pictures. The accordion doors also contribute to the goal of creating a more spacious kitchen. When opened, the doors neatly fold to one side of the wall and create a seamless opening to the outdoor pergola and BBQ area.

For the cabinetry, our client wanted lots of storage space but avoid the look of having too many cabinets in one space. So to solve this, we created custom floor to ceiling cabinets. This way, we maximized the available wall space and minimized the use of unique cabinet units. The kitchen island was also fitted with custom cabinetry. The area in front of the barstools opens up to more storage space.

To create visual contrast in textures from the plane cabinets, our client went with marble for the countertops and backsplash. For the finishing touches, we needed a subtle but noticeable way to break up the white so we went with gold knobs and fixtures. To make sure that these colors didn’t clash, we tested these colors in the 3D mockups. Turns out, the stainless steel, white, gold, and the marble surfaces worked quite well together.

Kitchen Remodel

Our client wanted to renovate this quaint and dated home into an updated Contemporary home with modern features like the coffee nook and wine fridge you see in the pictures. Most of the original layout stayed the same except for a wall we took out that separated the kitchen from the dining room. Tearing down a wall is a big commitment but our kitchen designers and builders gave our client the assurance they needed to make sure that they weren’t making a mistake. We replaced the wall with a quartz countertop with enough space to comfortably seat two.

To achieve the modernized Contemporary kitchen, our client also used textures and colors. The most prominent features paired together are Ogee backsplash, quartz countertops with a marble façade, stainless steel, and the wood accents. All these components are quite distinct so there was a lot of work done while designing the kitchen. The project manager, 3D design team, and our client worked really hard to reach the beautiful composition you see now. Additionally, we opened up the kitchen’s walls that faced the backyard to create space for more windows.

As for the appliances and fixtures, our client went with a stainless steel apron sink right by the window overlooking the pergola and the backyard. Additionally, we installed a new stove, overhead range, wine fridge, and refrigerator. The floating shelves you see in the picture have a custom fitted rack for wine glasses.
It might be redundant to mention it here but keep in mind that your kitchen doesn’t need to look the same way from when you acquired it. With the use of 3D technology, we can create mockups of the ideas you’ve had for your dream kitchen.

Kitchen Remodel

10 weeks

This modern Italian and Mediterranean inspired kitchen we remodeled in Warwick Ct, Lafayette was designed to not only look stunning but to also encourage bonding with family and friends. Starting with the most prominent elements, our client wanted to make a statement with their fixtures, mosaic tile backsplash, and the Mediterranean blue. To achieve this we created a kitchen that had enough tranquil elements to allow for the statement pieces to stand out.

We went with white walls on white countertops so that the mosaic backsplash had some contrast. The white ceiling, cabinets, and quartz countertop similarly creates contrast for the double sink with gold faucets, knobs, and geodesic light fixtures.

Looks aside, this kitchen is also super functional. The Wolf double oven 8 burner stove and overhead range paired with the massive double door refrigerator can keep up with the hungriest kiddos. The kitchen seamlessly opens up to the main dining room and the kid’s playroom. The kitchen island is a super spacious workspace and also serves as added storage with the custom built cabinetry below the countertop. A custom chalkboard was installed to serve as a place for the family to leave notes to one another and do a little bit of math homework on. While we’re discussing custom made, you might’ve missed the mini wine fridge tucked neatly next to the chalkboard. One of the benefits of custom cabinetry is that it allows you to get really creative with the space you have available in your kitchen.

Start your kitchen renovation with 3D designs and a good set of plans

Pre-construction 3D plans are great for creating a clear set of expectations for the construction team but also to give you a clear idea of how the finished kitchen will look. With the kitchen design team you can go through various iterations of material pairing to make sure that you explore all the options available to you. This way, you can find that perfect backsplash to go with your marble countertop. The image you see below is from a kitchen we renovated in Concord. As you'll see, the homeowner decided to go with a different backsplash for the final construction.

Another benefit of pre-construction kitchen designs is that you're able to play around with various openings for appliances. Getting appliance openings right is especially important if you're installing custom cabinetry in your kitchen. Custom cabinets are made to fit the dimensions of your kitchen and once they're built there's not a lot of room for error. The last thing you'd want is for that refrigerator you already bought not to fit forcing you to either get a new fridge or redo your cabinets. Neither one would be cheaper than paying for a good set of pre-construction designs.

Another use-case for pre-construction kitchen designs is when you want to experiment with the option of tearing down a wall to extend a room or create an open-layout kitchen. Tearing down a wall requires, along with other permits, a set of structural plans from an engineer. So before investing the time and resources into tearing down the wall, it helps to see if you'll actually like how the room will look without the wall.

Moral of the story, planning leaves everyone involved happier with the end result.

How much does it cost to remodel a kitchen?

You may have been told, no two kitchen remodels are the same. Each remodeling project has unique requirements making it hard to give a standard price. We say this not to dodge the question but to avoid giving you misleading information. But based on previous remodels, we can tell you that a like-to-like remodel of a standard kitchen starts at $15,000 - $20,000 for rough materials and labor.

Like-to-like kitchen remodels refer to projects that simply change aesthetic elements of the kitchen but keep the layout and structural elements the same. So if all you're doing is redoing your countertops, cabinetry, flooring, backsplash, and light fixtures, then you're looking at a like-to-like remodel.

Where to find the best materials for your kitchen renovation?

At Home Quality Remodeling, we've opened accounts with various material suppliers across the Bay Area to get 'contractor discounts'. We're able to get prices that are much cheaper than retails prices because of the frequency and quantity we buy under our account.

These discounts are passed directly back to you, of course. We build in our profit margin in the cost of rough materials and labor.
